Media interviews are often perceived as the epitome of journalism since news anchors engage in a one-on-one conversation with various persons of interest ranging from the top political and social class.

This enables journalists to become the medium between society and the interviewee.

In the past year, several interviews have sparked debate and become talking points of conversation either due to the subject being discussed or the conduct of the session.

Kenyans.co.ke samples some of the interviews that made headlines in 2022.

Two days before the August 9 elections, former President Uhuru Kenyatta granted an interview to vernacular stations broadcasting in the Kikuyu language.

At the time, they stated that Uhuru violated electoral conduct which prohibits campaigns 48 hours before the election.

Moses Kuria Differs With Citizen TV After Snubbing Interview With Murathe

Former Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria on March 15, 2022, snubbed a prime-time interview with Citizen TV anchor Waihiga Mwaura as he set to share the set with the then Jubilee vice-chairman David Murathe.

A few hours before the show, Kuria indicated that he had sent Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro to represent him.

During the interview, Waihiga, however, argued that Kuria cancelled at the last minute without giving a clear explanation.

On the other hand, Murathe claimed that Kuria feared engaging with him in a debate.

The Jubilee politician further alleged that he had a dossier on Kuria but would not reveal it on a live TV show without offering the MP a chance to defend himself.

Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi's live NTV interview held on August 11, 2022, was cut short after he claimed that the then Chief of Staff in the Office of the Deputy President and current Energy CS Davis Chirchir, had been arrested at the Bomas of Kenya.

Itumbi claimed that the Chirchir was picked up by police over his affiliation with President William Ruto. As Itumbi began to make the allegations, the interview was abruptly discontinued by the TV station.

Kidero, Citizen TV Journalist in an Altercation During Interview

Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero, on August 12, 2022, clashed with Citizen TV journalist Laura Otieno during an interview.

Kidero lost his cool and walked out, accusing Otieno of being biased.

According to the politician, the Citizen TV journalist reportedly interviewed him exhaustedly.

"You know, you are interviewing us like your heart is not here. Why are you doing it in the first place?"

"No, I do not like your attitude. I do not want you to interview me," Kidero remarked before walking away.

Otieno was interviewing Kidero following the outcome of the Homa Bay gubernatorial election in which Gladys Wanga defeated Kidero to become the county boss.
