Two convicts in the murder case of Willie Kimani's murder on Thursday, December 16, pleaded for forgiveness before justice Jesse Lessit at Milimani Law Courts during their sentencing hearing.
During the hearing, one of the accused, Fredrick Leliman, through his lawyer, sought forgiveness from the family of the deceased.
The lawyer, Cliff Ombeta, argued that Leliman was unwell and required to be close to his family to get necessary care. He added that when the convict was arrested, he suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure.
Ombeta further noted that Leliman had suffered a lot during the six years that the case was underway.
"For the family to start healing, they must start forgiveness. As his lawyer, I vouch for the family and court to forgive him," stated the lawyer.
According to Ombeta, Leliman regretted the incident and asked the court to give him a second chance at life.
On the other hand, Sylvia Wanjiku's lawyer argued that she was not directly involved in the murder. Wanjiku was touted as a religious person in a bid to get a better sentence.
The lawyer added that Wanjiku regretted the outcome that led to the loss of the three lives.
Justice Lessit, however, postponed the sentencing of the convicts to February 3, 2023. She hinted at appointing another person to deliver the verdict on her behalf.
She noted that the lawyers had failed to file submissions earlier as instructed.
The three were accused of killing lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and their driver Joseph Muiruri in June 2016.
In July 2022, Lessit found the three guilty of murder after several years of court hearings.
Initially, four convicts had been arraigned in court but one was acquitted for lack of sufficient evidence linking him to the murder.
