A former senator was hospitalised at a Nairobi-based medical facility after he was mugged on the night of Tuesday, December 20.

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), dated Wednesday, December 21, the former lawmaker was rushed to the hospital after sustaining injuries on his head and face.

The Senator was on his way from Kirinyaga road when he got accosted by a group of thugs at the Globe Cinema roundabout.

DCI reported that the former senator lost money and other valuables whose worth is yet to be established.

"The former legislator who represented a coastal county between 2017-2022 was accosted by muggers at around 9 pm, as he walked from Kirinyaga road where he had gone to buy a shirt, to his rented room in Ngara.

"The thugs who assaulted him before they took away his mobile phone and other valuables disappeared shortly thereafter towards Nairobi river, leaving the Senator in his own car," read the statement in part.

DCI added that the former lawmaker was rescued by officers who were on patrol around the CBD.

"Police officers based at Parklands police station who were out on patrol spotted the badly injured man who had managed to walk to the Fig Tree - Kipande road junction and rushed to his aid," DCI stated.

The officers also warned the public to be weary of the surrounding during the festive season even as they put the thugs on notice.

It is reported that the former senator was in a stable condition, but still under doctors' care at a city hospital.

However, the former senator was yet to release a statement on the incident at the time of publication.

The incident barely came after the government rolled out various interventions to address increased cases of insecurity in the CBD including the deployment of the General Service Unit (GSU).
