Vioja Mahakamani actor Gibson Gathu Mbugua passed away on the morning of Thursday, December 22 after ailing for 20 years.
Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), which hosted the hit local show, confirmed that the actor, who played the role of a prosecutor on Vioja Mahakamani, passed on while in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit.
In August, Gathu had undergone surgery after battling Diabetes for approximately 20 years.
On June 13, Uhuru helped Gathu with Ksh2 million to undergo a kidney transplant. He sent his donation during the fundraising event that took place at Charter Hall in Nairobi.
Confirming the donation, Gathu described Uhuru as one of his close friends.
“President Kenyatta, who is a good friend, did send his personal donation of Ksh2 million. We as a family and the committee thank him for the support,” the reknown Vioja Mahakamani actor stated.
The transplant was carried out at Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret and Gathu confirmed that his health had improved shortly after.
“I have been in the hospital since July 18, 2022, and I was discharged on August 3, 2022. I feel so good.
I am full of energy. I think dialysis had taken a toll on me. Now I am slowly going back to my usual self. God is so good,” he announced.
Following the announcement of his demise, Kenyans united to celebrate his life as they mourned his untimely death.
"You mean this was the last photo,!! where will I get a friend like you, who was more than a brother to me, who will encourage me that I can act? I'm in tears Gibson Gathu Mbugua why now ?" his close friend Angel Wayne Ng'endo mourned sharing the last photo they took together.
Kiambu County women representative Anne Wamuratha could also not hide her pain following the sad news;
"It is with great regret that we receive the sand news of the passing of our legendary actor in Vioja Mahakamani amongst others TV programmes Prosecutor Gibson Gathu Mbugua.
As a media personality, we rubbed shoulders with this great man who was not only an actor but a mentor to many ambitious Kenyans who were in the media industries.
He will be greatly remembered for his prowess in the role of a prosecutor in Vioja mahakamani and Mama Kayai in the role he played alongside Mzee Onjwang," read part of her message.
