Headteacher of Moi DEB Primary in Bungoma County broke down in tears after the school registered a considerably poor performance in the 2022 Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE).

The headteacher, Kelvin Wanyama, who faulted examiners for the underwhelming performance also accused the Ministry of Education for manipulating the school's results.

The disappointed headteacher stated that his child had received 334 points, and sought the assistance of sub-county directors to have the matter addressed.

The top student in the school received 365 marks out of the total 500 marks.

“I am also a parent in this school. My son who had selected Maranda for his high school education had gotten 334 marks. I don't know how to share this news with him,” Wanyama stated in tears.

Wanyama, called parents of the candidates for a meeting on Wednesday, December 21, to address the issue that is now threatening to cause dispair among pupils.

The Headteacher summoned the Sub County director during the meeting to offer possible solutions to their problem.

“ You have seen your children studying and struggling. This is not fair. You cannot compare these pupils with other pupils from other schools. We want the sub-county director to come and give us answers,” Wanyama lamented.

However, the the sub-county director did not issue any statement over the issue.

The school administration appealed the results seeking different results from the Ministry of Education.

“ We want to make an appeal. These are not the results of this school,” the headteacher added.

In the neighbouring Kakamega County, Governor Fernandes Barasa promised to pay in full the high school fees of the top student Otieno Lewis Omondi.

"It was a pleasure to join you for the festivities. "Good academic performance is the result of concerted efforts by teachers, parents, students, and the community," Barasa stated.

Ezekiel Machogu, Cabinet Secretary for Education, released the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results on Wednesday, December 21 at Mtihani House.

The CS announced that over 1.2 million students sat for the national examinations, with the best student scoring 431 marks. He affirmed that all candidates would be admitted to secondary schools.

“All the candidates whose results I am releasing today will be admitted to Form One, under the 100 percent transition policy," he stated.
