Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa promised to sponsor Otieno Lewis Omondi, the KCPE top student, in his secondary education.

In a statement on Wednesday, December 21, Barasa stated that the county would foot the entire high school fees for the star student after he beat the entire 1.2 million candidates that sat for the national examinations.

“The County Government of Kakamega will sponsor the top student, Otieno Lewis Omondi Glen, through his Secondary Education,” he announced.

He also acknowledged the role played by the school where Lewis studied for his primary education and praised the school's teachers for nurturing the student.

“Congratulations St. Peters Mumias Boys Primary for placing Kakamega County on the National map, by producing the best student.

"It was a pleasure joining you for the celebrations. Good academic performance is a result of deliberate efforts from teachers, parents, learners and the community,” he stated.

The lawmaker further noted that the whole country was in a celebratory mood for it outshined all other counties in the country.

“Today is a happy day for the people of Kakamega after receiving the KCPE results because the top student comes from this county,” he celebrated.

Education in Kakamega county has continued to receive mass support from the government since it forms part of the Governor's manifestos.

“I have made sure that the education sector in my manifesto has been given the first priority and am also working with the government to make sure the sector is highly supported,” announced Barasa.

Speaking after receiving his exam results, Omondo expressed interest in joining Alliance High School and later pursuing a course in engineering at the university.

“I thank God for the impressive performance in the KCPE exam. My parents and teachers gave me the encouragement and support that made all the difference and contributed to my good performance in the exam. My fellow students were there for me all the time whenever I needed them," he stated.

Omondi's teachers and parents described him as a prayerful, obedient boy who had a bright future ahead of him.

The head teacher, Ann Onyancha, noted that Omondi had maintained top performance since he joined the school eight years ago.
