Several former Cabinet Secretaries who served under former President Uhuru Kenyatta's regime have extended their cordial relationship even after exiting office.

According to former ICT CS Joe Mucheru, a number of Cabinet Secretaries use their free time to cement their family bonds.

The cabinet secretaries organise private parties and even meet up for exclusive events, which rarely get media attention.

Apart from playing golf, they also convene for various business meetings and dining experiences as they reminisce the good times while in government.

"Last weekend (between December 16-18), we were in Naivasha, where Matiang'i's son was getting married. Quite a few of us went there, and it was a very good affair," Mucheru told Citizen TV on Sunday, December 25.

"It is nice to see that we can now start dealing with family projects, and I think those kinds of friendships will last for life now," he added.

Without revealing names, Mucheru added that former CSs have their own caucus, which convenes at golf courses and reclusive restaurants for games.

"Some of us have actually formed a caucus and we go to different clubs to play golf," Mucheru insisted.

Apart from fun activities, the former Cabinet Secretaries also empower one another with different entrepreneurial ideas and investment plans.

Dining experiences and tours also form part of their meetings.

Party Rules

However, their meetings are characterised by stringent rules. Members attending the private parties are not allowed to send media invites as they used to do during their tenure in the cabinet.

The photos and details of their conversations are also not shared with the public without other CSs' consent.

Additionally, they rarely discuss their tenure, both failures and achievements.

"We don't think too much about the past. We just sit back and enjoy the peace," Mucheru insisted.

However, it is not clear whether other CSs who were re-appointed by President William Ruto joined their private parties.

Ruto retained Simon Chelugui, who he named CS for Cooperatives and Micro and Small Enterprises, and Monica Juma, tasked with advising the head of state on National Security.
