Royal Media Services (RMS) on Tuesday, December 27, confirmed that one of its staff members had succumbed to illness following a suspected case of food poisoning.

In a statement, RMS Managing Director Wachira Waruru indicated the media house contracted a private food catering company to provide meals for staff working during the Christmas shift.

However, on Boxing Day, several staff complained of severe stomach pains after consuming meals served within the company premises.

According to Waruru, one passed on after consuming the buffet.

"We are deeply shocked and saddened to inform the public that one staff member has unfortunately succumbed to the illness attributed to the suspected food poisoning," Waruru's statement read in part.

Others who were part of the team that attended the feast were also examined by the medics who camped at the media house in Nairobi.

"Several staffers have also been hospitalised for the suspected poisoning," he added.

Waruru insisted that investigations had been launched on the food poisoning case.

Insiders who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke revealed that medical doctors pitched camp at RMS on Tuesday, December 27, examining other staff members who were present during the Christmas shift.

Preliminary reports also indicated that RMS management had advised other team members who had cases of stomach upset to seek immediate medical attention.

However, by the time of this publication, medical officers had not revealed the real cause of the food poisoning.

The media house owns several media stations, including Citizen TV, Radio Citizen, Ramogi TV and Inooro TV.
