Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was tasked with uniting President William Ruto and his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta.

The task was bestowed on him by Kikuyu Council of Elders and Kiama Kia Ama Association.

This was during New Year’s Eve prayers at The Ol Kalou Arboretum in Nyandarua County on Saturday, December 31.

“Our aim is to end the bitter rivalry and divisions witnessed in the run-up to, and during the last elections,”

“We task the deputy president to spearhead the reconciliation process,” council chairman Wachira Kiago stated.

On why the reconciliation is important, the elders announced that it is their duty to unify communities and leaders across the country.

The elders adding urgency to the matter announced that the reconciliation process will be prioritized in 2023.

“Uhuru, Ruto and Rigathi are our leaders and they should be at the forefront showing us the way.”

“We cannot develop as a nation if the three leaders do not make peace and that is why we will prioritize this in 2023,” the council announced in a statement.

Uhuru and Ruto began falling out in 2018 when the former president sought political reconciliation with his then nemesis Raila Odinga.

The handshake between Uhuru and Raila largely saw Ruto isolated from the government with his close allies losing key stated appointments positions.

The fallout between Uhuru and Ruto culminated when the former head of state decided to support Raila for president.

Ruto and Uhuru have though worked closely since Ruto took over as president.

His first appointment after being sworn in to office was picking the former president as his peace envoy for the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa.
