A 15-year-old form two student in Migori county was found dead after allegedly being punished by his mother on Sunday, January 1 night.

According to Migori County Police Commander Mark Wanjala, the body of the deceased was severely bruised.

“The body had bruised on the knees but we believe that he might have sustained some internal injuries during the incident,” Wanjala stated.

The police arrested the woman after neighbours discovered her son’s lifeless body while she was at work.

The Police Commander stated that the suspect, a business woman, left her house on Monday, January 2, believing that her son, was sleeping off the beating he had received.

The woman, who was surprised to learn of the death of her son, admitted to punishing him.

The mother claimed that during the ordeal, a brother to the deceased was also present.

“The woman has admitted to beating the deceased, but she says that her eldest son was also present,” Wanjala confirmed.

The police launched a manhunt for the other son who reportedly took part in the fatal beating.

Wanjala added that the police were yet to establish the cause of death of the 15-year-old but had reason to believe that he succumbed to the injuries sustained after the punishment.

The body of the boy was taken to Migori Level five hospital pending postmortem while the woman was detained at Oruba Police Station, ahead of her arraignment in court.

In another incident, a woman in Kiambu was arrested on Sunday, January 1, after the death of her seven-year-old son and five-year-old daughter in their family home in Kikuyu.

Kikuyu Police Commander Catherine Ringera stated that the two children were suspected to have been tortured before dying. The minors were found with their heads immersed in a bucket of water.
