Beatrice Marshall, on Wednesday, January 4, thanked former President Uhuru Kenyatta for a highway that passes through her farm.

The veteran journalist, who works with international media house CGTN, praised the former president for developing the Eldoret Southern bypass, which she indicated saves her and other motorists from traffic.

"That bypass passes through my farm. It takes me exactly nine minutes from Eldoret International Airport to the farm," Beatrice indicated.

The veteran journalist responded to a discussion about advising commuters from Western Kenya to pass through Turbo to avoid the traffic jam in Eldoret Town, especially during the festive season.

According to the veteran journalist, she used to take over one and a half hours on the road from the airport to her home, but the bypass considerably eased movement

"Thank you so much, President Kenyatta," she concluded.

Motorists plying the road also appreciated how it eased traffic congestion, considering that they take around 25 minutes from Maili Tisa to Cheplaskei.

The Ksh9.6 billion Southern Eldoret bypass is one of the former Head of State's projects within the Rift Valley region that was completed in his final term as president.

Ksh 5.6 billion of the budget allocated for the project was spent on construction, while the remaining Ksh4 billion was spent on compensating about 1,000 families that were displaced.

The former President launched the project in August 2017, but actual construction started in March 2018, having been delayed by land compensation disputes

Completed in June 2022, five years after its groundbreaking, the bypass is said to have resulted in skyrocketing land prices along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway.

The African Development Bank funded the multi-billion shilling project in conjunction with the government of Kenya.
