He sprung from his make-shift bed - a bench on which he used a Maasai shuka as a pillow - lifting up his hand as a sign of surrender.
Amid the blinding lights of the torch pointed towards him, he heard the voice of the employer who beckoned him to stop screaming.
"What is wrong with you?" the employee questioned as he turned off the torch.
The video sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans on the role of security guards. A section of social media users argued that he should be fired for sleeping on the job.
"Surely, is this the same person you expect to provide security if he cannot even defend himself? "A user wrote
On the other hand, a second user opined that the training of a watchman does not include combat and the best they can do is to raise an alarm to those they protect.
"Watchmen exist to warn in case of security infringements; he did his job. Besides, they are the majority of the people nabbed after theft incidents," another argued.
Moreover, the employer was on the spot over ambushing the security guard in his sleep citing potential health risks.
Sympathizers of the watchman in the video argued that the majority of them sleep because they work double-shifts to earn more. They petitioned employers to review their terms and welfare.
