Former Royal Media journalist Captain David Bondo lost his job as a radio presenter after opening his own radio station.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, January 5, the ex-Ramogi FM presenter revealed how the management summoned him after learning that he had become a competitor.

Through a meeting, Bondo was unceremoniously told that he would no longer work for the company as his own - Jowi FM - was a threat to Ramogi FM.

“I ceased being an RMS employee on November 29, 2022. The managers stated that Jowi FM was seen to offer Ramogi strong competition and for that reason, they were not comfortable having me even though the station had not gone on air.

Some managers wanted me to continue working while others said No. The majority carried the day,” he explained.

The radio station which will be launched on February 2, will have Luo presenters who worked at other radio stations.

“We are ready with great presenters; Mary Wera from Ramogi FM, Omollo Abisa from Lolwe FM, Mercy Okuto from Dala FM and Benard Jakusa from Kenyatta University.

I will act as a Sports news presenter and also host Pau Tuke show,” Bondo expounded.

The launch will see prominent people in attendance, who had also led to the delay of the event due to their tight schedule.

“ICT CS Eliud Owalo will be our chief guest. We have also sent an invitation to Communication Authority of Kenya Boss Ezra Chiloba, Media Council of Kenya, Chairman of the Kenya Correspondents Association William Oloo Janack and Kisumu county commissioner Josephine Ouko,” the EX-Ramogi FM presenter explained.

Bondo partnered with a former marketing manager at RMS, John Odingi, in running the radio station.

He however started the radio station all alone on April 2, 2019, as Ratego FM  based in Siaya.  He ran it for three years before rebranding it with his friend Odingi to Jowi FM.
