Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on Friday, January 6, toured Mount Kenya, where he offered special prayers.
Gachagua asked God to help President William Ruto to accomplish his vision for the country.
“Facing Mount Kenya, I prayed to ‘Mwene Nyaga’ to give good health and wisdom to our Great Leader President as he embarks on the economic transformation of our nation and the restoration of the dignity of the Kenyan people.
"Mlima (Mt Kenya) is calm, steady, and stoic na iko sawa,” he tweeted.
The deputy president revealed that he woke up early in the morning to start his climb, culminating in a service at the most sacred place among the local communities.
“I took time to thank God for his mercy and kindness to the people of Kenya and for giving us the freedom we are now enjoying," he added.
He also took his time to mark another milestone by crossing River Rikkia, which rekindled the memories of the Mau Mau war.
Gachagua, a son of a Mau Mau fighter, took his time at the river and reminded the entourage of its significance.
Mau Mau fighters used Mount Kenya as a hideout during the struggle for Kenya's independence.
Local elders have also faced the mountain while conducting special prayers well laced with traditions and cultural practices.
In September 2022, over 5,000 elders gathered in the same spot to pray for the nation following a successful General Election.
Gachagua's special prayer comes just days after Mt Kenya politicians endorsed him as the new kingpin.
The DP has been on a charm offensive to win all regional leaders and those allied with his rival, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Those who warmed up to his embrace were former Kieni MP and current EALA legislator, Kanini Kega and former Nyeri Town MP, Ngunjiri Wambugu. Analysts argued that the DP is shaping his future as Central Kenya's kingpin ahead of the 2027 General Election.
