'One roll of counterfeit stamps from the taxman, distillation equipment, and chemicals used in the production of counterfeit alcoholic drinks were seized," DCI reported.

President William Ruto stated that his administration will deal with those devising ways to evade paying taxes noting that the behaviour was detrimental to the country's economy.

He challenged the taxman to collect Ksh4 trillion in revenue in the 2022/2023 financial year.

"I want you to pray for our nation so that we can move our revenue from 14 per cent to 25 per cent because that is where countries like ours are," the President shared.

Ruto added that by eliminating fake stamps and illegal brew from the market, the youth will be rescued from drowning in alcoholism.

"I want to assure you that issues to do with illegal brew, we will fight it to the letter. These people are the ones having fake stamps and they do not pay tax," Ruto lamented.

In November 2022, the National Police Service (NPS) announced a countrywide crackdown on all illegal and contraband goods to weed out tax evasion schemes.

"Some unscrupulous taxpayers devise ways to cheat and evade paying taxes due hence affect projected revenue generation targets," NPS lamented.
