Ruto Makes Changes to His Press Team

President William Ruto, on Monday, January 9, made new appointments under the Presidential Communication Service (PCS) which is headed by David Mugonyi.

The new appointments included persons that had been unceremoniously expelled from former President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration.

Munyori Buku, who once served as the director of public communications at PSCU, took over office as the Public Communications Secretary under the office of the President.

"This Order delegated the following functions and institutions to Ministries and State Departments, and it supersedes Executive Order No.1 of 2022, issued on October 12, 2022," the order read in part.

Eric Ngeno took over the previous position he held in the Kenyatta government where he was in charge of messaging. He also doubles up as a speechwriter in the new regime.

David Nzoika was appointed as the Digital and Innovations Secretary.

Wanjohi Githae, formerly the director of communications of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, landed a new role as the Public Communications Director.

James Kinyua, who served in Kenyatta’s government as the director of branding and events, took over the same position under Ruto's regime.

The Head of State also split the office of State House Spokesperson held by Hussein Mohamed with that of the Head of Presidential Communication Service (PSC) occupied by David Mugonyi.

According to the previous order, Executive Order No.1 of 2022, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed was appointed as the deputy to David Mugonyi, the Head of the Presidential Communication Service.

The State House Spokesperson will direct a team of communicators and researchers, as well as liaise with other arms of the government.

The changes were made in an executive order issued by the Head of State on Monday, January 9, reassigning functions and institutions among Ministries and State Departments.
