Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has been given an earful by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga over his policies in Nairobi.

While appearing on K24 TV morning show on Tuesday, January 10, the senator argued that Nairobi had the interests of every Kenyan and that Sakaja could not formulate policies alone.

He was adamant that he and other Kenya Kwanza leaders must be consulted before Sakaja made any decision.

“We are serving the same people, and that is why before any decision is made let us have a discussion and reach a compromise," the senator warned.

Wamatinga equally clarified that having a sit-down with the governor should not be interpreted as directing him.

“The fact of the matter is that no one is directing Sakaja, we have seen hustlers in Nairobi being harassed by the government through wrong policies.

“What we require from Sakaja is that before he implements any decision, he should invite us to have a candid discussion,” the senator explained.

Apart from involving leaders from other regions to discuss Nairobi affairs, Wamatinga further remarked that every policy in Nairobi should be subjected to public participation.

“Sakaja should not make decisions without public participation as that contravenes Kenyan Constitution,” Wamatinga remarked.

Wamatinga’s statement came two days after Sakaja through a press statement warned elected leaders from outside Nairobi to stop meddling with the affairs of the capital.

“There are some politicians, especially from other parts of the country that are trying to meddle with affairs of Nairobi.

“Let us not accept anyone to cause divisions in our city, I will not allow anyone to sow discord within Nairobi residents,” the governor vowed on January 8.
