Why V8 Is Not a Car as Many Presume: Here Is All You Need to Know

The term "V8" is very popular among Kenyans, especially, lovers of high-end and luxurious cars. In many instances, people tend to think that V8 is a make that references to a specific car model or type of a deluxe car.

However, V8 has nothing to do with a model or a type of car at all - whether high-end or ordinary vehicle. 

V8 means an eight-cylinder piston engine in which two banks of four cylinders share a common crankshaft and are arranged in a V configuration.

V8 engine was first manufactured in 1904 by the French Antoinette company to power speedboats. 

The engine was later fitted in aircraft and Cadillac L to drive the locomotives at high speed. 

According to the global car manufacturer, Toyota, V8 is an eight-cylinder engine that is very common in pickup trucks, SUVs and sportscars that are known for handling massive weight and tough terrains. 

V8 engines are designed to create massive horsepower driving capacity for big cars that haul or tow. 

"It usually has between four and six litres of displacement, depending on the size of the eight cylinders within. For instance, Toyota presently offers two eight-cylinder engines: one is a 4.6 litre and the other is a 5.7 litre," Toyota explained. 

Unlike most compact vehicle engines that have at least four cylinders, V8 engines are powerful and cater to a shopper after lots of toughness and torque.

"Presently, V8 is offered in two eight-cylinder engines: one is a 4.6 litre and the other is a 5.7 litre," Toyota explained. 

Below V8, is the V6 engine that drives many crossover and SUV models, like the Highlander, Camry and 4Runner.

"Pickup trucks on the other hand, like the Toyota Tundra, typically have eight. Generally speaking, more cylinders means more horsepower and torque," Toyota explained. 

At the same time, it's important for car lovers to distinguish the difference between models such as TXL, which is an advanced model of TX and V8.
