Charged members of a cooperative society in Naivasha, Nakuru County,  on Wednesday, January 11, demolished a a health facility constructed on a disputed piece of land in the area.

Members of the society lamented that their toil of many years to acquire the land was watered down by the construction of the dispensary in a project undertaken by a former area Member of Parliament under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

According to them, the construction of the dispensary on the land repelled prospective buyers despite a court ruling validating them as the rightful owners of the land.

Further, the group cast their doubts on the manner in which the structure was constructed- arguing that it was unlike other government projects.

They alleged that the foundation and preliminary works were done at night in 2016 during the Easter holiday.

"They brought in construction materials at night on the eve of Good Friday in 2016," one member stated.

While talking to the press, the members stated that the registrar of lands had ruled that they were the rightful owners of the land, and consequently agreed to demolish the dispensary.

However, they claimed that the management of the facility had failed to heed an agreement to clear the land in question.

The chairperson of the society decried that members had been forced to wait for a long time, with some dying before reaping from their investment.

"Some of us who were presented when we started have died. We have gone through the courts and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) with no fruition," one of the members stated.

"This structure has been a red flag for prospective buyers, nobody can commit money to a land that is disputed," another added.

They have since requested prompt action from relevant agencies to allow them to sell the land and enjoy the dividends of the investments.
