The new members appointed by the CS include; Darshan Shah, Wilkister Simiyu, Fancy Too, Michael Kamau Kamiru and Samir Ibrahim.

“The appointed members will serve as the Board of the KRA for a period of three years,” part of the gazette notice read.

Prof Ndung'u, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya stated that the appointments will take effect from January 13, 2023.

As the 5 members were appointed, the CS also revoked 5 board members who had been appointed during former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

“The appointment of the following board members has been revoked, Susan Mudhune, Mukesh Shah, Richard Opembe, Leonard Ithau and Charles Makori Omanga,” the gazette notice read.

Charles Makori Omanga, Leonard Ithau and Susan Mudhune had been sworn in as KRA board members on June 5, 2018 together with Francis Muthaura who acted as board chairman.

Muthaura’s appointment as KRA Board Chairman was revoked on November 18, 2022.

The career public servant was replaced by Anthony Ng’anga Mwaura who before his appointment had served as chair of the elections board at the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The appointments came at a time when President William Ruto promised to transform the revenue collection authority.
