Rosemary Munga, wife to Elijah Kuria painfully narrated how her husband was reportedly tricked by a close friend to take up a loan under his name.

According to Rosemary, her husband was mentally incapacitated to comprehend the terms of the loan when he signed the loan documents.

In addition, she noted that she was listed as the beneficiary and their Ksh500,000 Toyota Passo was used as security for the loan.

During an interview with Sikika Road Safety on Wednesday, January 18, the wife lamented that the friend paid the loan for some months before defaulting.

"My husband did not even use a coin of the money, he gave it all to his friend. He can not express himself, I wonder how they convinced him to sign the loan documents," she questioned.

She lamented that on the loan documents, her name did not match neither did the phone number, however, her national identity card number was used.

The distraught mother went on to narrate how difficult the search for justice has been noting that the creditor's repossessed the car after the friend allegedly failed to repay the loan.

In addition to the frequent visits to police stations, Rosemary was forced to look for alternative sources of income since the car was no more.

"My husband is under medication like he has been for the past five years after he suffered a stroke, the car was our source of income," she narrated.

In addition, she noted that the husband required mandatory monthly speech therapy.

"I have tried to call the friend but he only sends Ksh500-Ksh1,000 which can barely sustain us. I do not want the petty cash, I want him to repay the car so that my family can have a stable flow of income," she declared.

According to Kuria's brother identified as Nicholas Waithaka, the suspect used to pay Ksh28,500 every month before he defaulted. He added that his brother also paid Ksh10,000.

Waithaka explained that the suspect had promised to pay back the cost of the car by May 2021 but failed.

He lamented that their numerous reports filed at the Central Police Station remained unattended to as well as all efforts to resolve the matter with the credit company.

"I have tried my brother's family but with the tough economic times, it is getting difficult. I want to solve this case and help my brother," he stated.

The duo appealed to the relevant authorities to intervene and help resolve the matter.

"National Police Service (NPS) and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), kindly help this family of Elijah Kuria Waithaka who is suffering from a stroke to get justice," Sikika appealed."

The friend and the credit company however did not respond to the allegations made by the family.
