Kenyan doctor Fredrick Chite was named the 2023 Distinguished Leadership in Global Health Award winner by the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH).
In a letter seen by Kenyans.co.ke dated Thursday, January 5, CUGH board chairperson Maureen Lichtveld announced Chite was recognised for his input in the medical field.
"This has been bestowed upon you for your outstanding expertise and commitment to improving the well-being of individuals around the world through research, education, and service.
"The lives you have touched and improved are a testament to the excellence you have brought to the global health field," the letter read in part.
Chite expressed gratitude to the award committee and vowed to champion equal access to medical care in low and middle-income countries.
"I am grateful for the recognition and will endeavour to continue our efforts in global health equity, access, innovations, and partnerships to improve the quality and Impact of healthcare provided globally, especially in LMIC," he stated.
The celebrated doctor will receive his award at the CUGH annual conference in Washington DC in April 2023.
Chite prides himself in cancer research. He is a Chief Medical Oncologist and Hematologist who practices in Kenya and America.
He is the Managing Director of the International Cancer Institute based in Uasin Gishu and the interim president of the East, Central & Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA).
A man of many hats, he is the principal investigator in the Blue-Print Project in Meru County, AMPATH Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program, and the Multi-national Lung cancer control program.
The Alliance High School alumnus holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Moi University after which he joined Indiana University for his Masters and Doctorate degrees.
