NTV News anchor Lofty Matambo is seeking to raise funds to sponsor over 210 school dropouts in Kilifi County in partnership with the alumni of his former high school - Lutsagani Secondary School.

While speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Matambo intimated that the plan was birthed as a response to the alarming rate of school dropouts in Kilifi South - his home area.

The high number of students dropping out, he noted, was attributable to the remoteness of most parts of Kilifi South region.

During the initial stages of the initiative, Matambo and his peers moved from home to home in an endeavor to ascertain the real number of school dropout cases.

He stated that data collected in a survey by the alumni group showed that there were over 200 dropouts in Kilifi South.

According to him, 40 learners have been readmitted to schools since the initiative kicked off. However, the alumni group is seeking to have the entire number of dropouts identified in the survey taken back to school.

“About 210 cases of school dropouts were identified in Kilifi South through this initiative with 40 of them having been taken back to school through individual donations,” he told Kenyans.co.ke.

The group was still trying to raise funds to have all needy students readmitted to school through the initiative.

Matambo and his peers organised a football tournament featuring old boys and girls at Lutsagani Grounds in Kilifi County's Chonyi area.

Over 10 teams from Chonyi, Kilifi South constituency were lined up to take part in the one-day tournament on Saturday, January 21.

The NTV news anchor was listed as one of the guests in the tournament alongside area Member of Parliament, Ken Chonga, and a host of other alumni.

"It is my great pride to participate in raising fees for more than 200 students who have dropped out of school in the Kilifi South area due to lack of fees. We have already started helping 40 children through individual donations," Matambo added.
