A mother-daughter duo from Nandi county was excited after the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2022 examination results were announced on Friday, January 20.

The mother, who had been out of school for years, beat the odds to score a D+ (plus) while her daughter scored a B+ (plus) in the KCSE 2022 exams.

The news of the mother and daughter performance was well received by Kenyans online who congratulated her for being a role model to her kids and for going back to school after many years.

Citizen TV's Chemutai Goin shared the news stating, "Congratulations Mama Sharon".

"She has set a good example to those who lost hope thinking that their time to learn had expired. Learning has no limit," one Kenyan stated.

Her first daughter was reportedly among the thousands of graduates from Kigango Training College on Tuesday, January 10.

While announcing the results, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu assured all the candidates that there will be a 100 per cent transition to higher learning institutions.

He emphasised on the need for candidates to equip themselves with technical skills from the numerous Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in the country.

Other than TVETs, the over 700,000 students who scored below C+(plus) have a pool of options to choose from including Teachers' Training Colleges, Kenya Medical Training Colleges (KMTC), and polytechnics.

In the 2022 KCSE results, several candidates managed to rise through challenges and post impressive results. A 22-year-old from Marsabit County, who had been stuck at the hospital for three years, scored B- (minus).

Additionally, a candidate who dropped out from Kenyatta University (KU) to go back to high school through a scholarship scored an A (plain).

"I worked as a watchman at night at least to have some cash and send back home for my siblings," he recalled.
