Police in Ngong, Kajiado County, cornered a group of thugs after a high-speed chase in Ngong.
The police, in a statement to the press on Saturday, January 21, noted that breaking cases had become rampant in the area.
Several residents and business people routinely complained of losing properties of undisclosed value including the funds used to repair the damaged doors and windows.
Police officers, led by Police Commander Hussein Abdi Gura, recovered several sets of number plates believed to be used in committing the crimes but the group.
"We got information from members of the public that there was a break-in going on at a local bar and we acted swiftly," the commander stated noting that the officers immediately opened fire on the thugs resulting in the highway chase.
Additionally, the police also recovered several crude weapons after the thugs fled.
The car used by the suspects was later recovered and taken to the police station for further investigations while a manhunt continues to apprehend the culprits.
Cases of thugs using fake number plates to steal from unsuspecting members of the public have been on the rise.
On Tuesday, January 10, a driver trying to cross the border from Tanzania to Kenya with contraband goods was apprehended by officers in Kajiado.
He had used Tanzanian number plates atop the original plates in a devious scheme to sneak contraband ethanol into the country.
Also at the beginning of January 2023, several cases of motorists fueling their vehicles and fleeing were on the rise, and some used fake number plates to avoid being caught.
