Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua tasked Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru with the responsibility of poaching former election rival Martha Karua from Azimio.
While addressing mourners in Kiambu on Monday, January 23, Gachagua directed Waiguru to ensure that Karua joins hands with Kenya Kwanza government, where she belonged.
He reckoned that she was the missing piece in the puzzle but was being held political hostage by Azimio party leader, Raila Odinga.
The DP expressed fears that the NARC-Kenya Party Leader may suffer the same fate as former President Uhuru Kenyatta because of her loyalty to Odinga.
"Waiguru, I do not know what you can do to help because there is something a miss; she has been brainwashed. The same thing that happened to Uhuru is repeating itself with her," he stated.
Gachagua laughed off claims by Odinga that he floored President William Ruto in the Central region during the 2022 August General Elections terming it a fallacy.
"Raila now claims that he won the election in Mount Kenya. I listened to him and I think he may need some help," he chided.
He maintained that the Azimio party leader listened to misguided counsel on where the people of the Mountain stood, and particularly lashed out at some of the musicians from the region.
"It was you, Ben Githae, who lied to him that he could climb the mountain yet you know the real situation on the ground. You need to apologise for that," the DP stated.
Despite the warning by the ODM leader, who categorically told him not to engage him politically, Gachagua maintained that he would be the one to deal with the former Premier and Karua.
The task could prove to be difficult for Waiguru as she and Karua have never spoken from the same side of the microphone politically.
In 2017, the two faced each other in the Kirinyaga gubernatorial election which the incumbent won. Karua unsuccessfully challenged the victory to the Supreme Court.
While the Narc-Kenya party leader opted not to challenge Waiguru in her re-election, a second showdown would have occurred if the county boss was selected to be Ruto's running mate.
On January 23, Odinga released findings of an independent enquiry of the August 2022 polls. He alleged that he whitewashed Ruto in Mount Kenya, where he garnered over two million votes.
He told off Gachagua, who had constantly attacked him, to stay in his lane as he was no match for him politically neither were they agemates.
