While appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Thursday, March 20, 2019, Professor George Omore Magoha revealed his cumulative net worth of Ksh250 million.
Magoha was vetted and approved by the National Assembly after nomination as Cabinet Secretary for Education by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In the documents presented to the vetting committee, Magoha had various sources of income, including rental houses, investments in treasury bills and income from his profession and fixed cash deposits.
He told MPs he had been saving since he began his career in 1988, employed as a lecturer in the Department of Surgery, at the University of Nairobi.
After he was appointed the Cabinet Secretary of Education on March 26, 2019, like other ministers, Magoha earned a basic salary of Ksh 554,400, a house allowance of Ksh200,000, a market adjustment of Ksh169,600, which totalled Ksh 924,000.
Generally, Magoha's net worth increased due to the income earned in former President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration.
At the Ministry of Education, Magoha continued with reforms that saw the highest number of students join high school.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Magoha initiated a 100 per cent transition from primary schools to secondary, in which he championed education for all.
Under The 100 Transition Policy, any Kenyan parent or a parent whose child resides in the country must enrol them for primary and secondary education.
"The move towards the attainment of 100 percent transition from primary to secondary education is just one step towards the attainment of universal basic education," Prof Magoha noted.
In January 2023, Magoha was appointed as a Professor at Maseno University.
The former Cabinet Secretary passed on at Nairobi Hospital on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
