The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has denounced viral results in which a student reportedly scored one A and six Es in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)

In a clarification dated January 25, KNEC flagged the circulated screenshot as fake and poked holes into the fabricated message purported to be from the council.

"We wish to inform the public to ignore this fake result being circulated through social media. No such index number exists in any of our schools," the body clarified.

According to the fake results, a student by the name Brian Kigen scored a straight A in English and E in Maths, Kiswahili, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Geography and Agriculture.

The student registered under index number 477*****301 attained a mean grade of E and an aggregate of 18 points.

Upon enrollment for the Form Four exam, all students are given a unique index number with 11 digits, the first eight are to identify the school and the last three the student.

The clarification raised concern from the public, who already expressed concerns on the credibility of the results released on January 20.

"Are things well at KNEC? You have been experiencing alot of challenges," one tweep posted.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogo announced that 30,882 candidates, 12,760 female and 18,062 male, scored E in the 2022 KCSE.

However, the concerns by the public were about the students who scored As.

"There were 1,146 (0.13%) candidates who obtained an overall Grade A in the 2022 KCSE Examination compared with 1,138 (0.14%) candidates in 2021," stated CS Machogu.

Results of little-known schools which floored giants were also subjected to questioning, even by Members of Parliament.

Lawmakers threatened to launch an investigation into the results. KNEC is yet to respond to some of the allegations.
