The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) ordered the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to submit documents pertaining to the August 2022 election.

In a letter dated January 25, DCI boss Mohamed Amin wrote to Chief Executive Officer Hussein Marjan to submit original copies of election results from all 290 constituencies to the agency.

Amin's orders came after Azimio party leader Raila Odinga's sustained claims that the election was marred with malpractices.

"For the purpose of lawfully processing the complaints referred above in line with our mandate, we hereby request that you furnish us with certified copies of Forms 34B that were used to tally, verify and declare the result of the presidential elections of August 9, 2022," the letter read in part.

Amin told Marjan that the DCI would particularly look into accusations by Odinga that IEBC allegedly used a doctored copy of aggregated Form 34Bs to call the election in favour of President William Ruto.

"Illustratively, they (Azimio) pointed out various alleged irregularities, including glaring inconsistencies in the watermarks featured in the forms labelled as 34B and which are being passed off as documents emanating from IEBC,” Amin wrote.

The team that provided oversight of the general election would further be scrutinised on forgery claims.

"The Directorate is investigating the validity and authenticity of the documents in question, in addition to whether offences relating to forgery and falsification of documents have been committed under Sections 345 - 348 of the Penal Code," the DCI boss ordered.

All documents should be submitted at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road. Kenyans.co.ke could not verify whether Marjan responded to the letter at the time of publishing.

On January 23, Jubilee party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni revealed the findings of an election whistleblower, who claimed that Raila won the election.

Kioni claimed that Odinga's votes were rigged in the Mount Kenya region,  and rejected IEBC results which indicated that the Azimio flagbearer only managed 800,000 votes.

In the Kamukunji declaration, the former Premier stated that he did not recognise Ruto as the president and called for an enquiry into IEBCs systems.
