Mucheru's appointment came just over two months after members of the Uhuru Kenyatta cabinet handed over to the William Ruto cabinet after swearing in on October 27, 2022.

"Joseph Mucheru, is the current President of JUMO, a technology company building next-generation financial services for emerging market entrepreneurs.

"In this role, Joe supports the company to deliver its growth goals, navigate the regulatory landscape, and build the firm’s presence across the African continent," his LinkedIn profile reads.

The company presents itself as a financial technology company that partners with banks, mobile network operators, and other e-commerce players to deliver progressive financial choices to customers in emerging markets across Africa and Asia.

It boasts itself as the bridge between entrepreneurs and capital by helping them create financial identities using their behavioural data.

Mucheru is not new to the tech space having held top positions in the country and region before being appointed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta to the cabinet.

A Global Board Member of the UNICEF Generation Unlimited, the former CS also served as the Chairman of the African Telecommunications Union- a subsidiary of the African Union - between August 2018 and July 2022.

The former CS was Google Sub-Saharan Africa Ambassador and Energy Access and Investment Regional Lead between 2014 and 2019.

Mucheru became the second of Uhuru's CSs to land an international job. In November 2022, former Tourism boss Najib Balalah was appointed vice president of Fauna & Flora International (FFI).
