Jackton Odhiambo, the main suspect in the murder probe of LGBTQ activist Edwin Chiloba, is set to be charged with murder.

According to reports, police officers informed an Eldoret Court on Tuesday, January 31, that they would pursue Odhiambo as the main link behind the murder.

In addition, four suspects were released from the probe as the investigations concluded.

Initially, police had arrested two High School students and a 19-year-old for allegedly colluding with Odhiambo to commit the crime.

According to past court documents, one of the suspects lamented that his arrest was a cover-up by police to hide the truth. In addition, the suspect alleged that Odhiambo and the two other suspects were unfamiliar to him.

He gave a plea to Senior Resident Magistrate Richard Odenyo to expedite the case in a bid to exonerate him. He also urged the judge to decline the prosecution's request to detain them for 21 days.

"All these people being held with me as suspects are strangers that I have never met. Detaining me for three weeks will subject my young family to a lot of suffering and anguish,” he stated.

The magistrate, however, declined the suspect's request and ordered the prosecution to conclude their investigations.

"Due to the magnitude of this matter and the nature of investigations involved, this court will allow the police to detain the suspects at Langas Police Station to complete investigations," the judge ordered.

At the same time, Odhiambo had also issued a plea in court to release him on bond in a bid to cater to his family.

The request was, however, quashed by the judge who allowed the detectives to detain him until the investigations were concluded.
