One of the prime suspects in the murder probe of LGTBQ activist Edwin Chiloba, on Tuesday, January 10, claimed that his arrest was a disguise by police officers to cover up by police to hide the truth.

Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Richard Odenyo, he informed the court that Jackton Odhiambo and two other suspects were unfamiliar to him.

While issuing a request to the judge, the suspect urged the police to expedite the investigations in a bid to exonerate him.

"All these people being held with me as suspects are strangers that I have never met. Detaining me for three weeks will subject my young family to a lot of suffering and anguish,” he stated.

The prosecution had filed an application in court seeking to detain the suspects for 21 days to allow for the conclusion of the investigations.

In response to this, the suspect claimed that the three-week period was quite long and strenuous.

Magistrate Odenyo, however, ignored the suspect's plea and granted the prosecution's request to detain the suspect for three weeks.

"Due to the magnitude of this matter and the nature of investigations involved, this court will allow the police to detain the suspects at Langas police station to complete investigations," the judge ordered.

Odhiambo, the prime suspect in the murder, on Monday, January 9, issued a request to the judge to release him on bond in a bid to cater for his family.

The request was, however, quashed by the judge who allowed the detectives to detain him until the investigations were completed.

In addition, Chiloba's family affirmed that the post-mortem would be conducted on Wednesday, January 11, in a bid to find out the cause of their kin's death.
