Melvin Faith, the elder sister of slain LGBTQ activist Edwin Chiloba revealed the final conversation she shared with her brother, hours before his demise.
While recounting the events, Faith noted that Chiloba sent a cryptic message - which was believed to be his farewell message.
She stated that at the time, Chiloba had arrived at a local club in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County to usher in the New Year on December 31, 2022.
Hours later, the activist, however, left the club with a friend, who was unknown to the sister.
"I chatted with him for about 20 minutes before bidding him goodbye and he left with a friend, whom I did not know.
"All I can remember is that he told me, bye sis, we shall meet again. I will be missing you,” a teary-eyed Faith stated.
She wondered why Chiloba, who had a lot of aspirations for the new year, would later meet his untimely demise.
The family called on the government to expedite the investigations in a bid to unravel the incident and capture the culprits.
"He told me this (2023) will be his best year yet. I did not know he would be killed. I want the government to quickly investigate this. He was a boy with dreams. He used to encourage us all,” she noted.
In addition, preliminary reports indicated that Chiloba died of strangulation. According to Peter Kimulwa, Uasin Gishu County Directorate of Criminal Investigations officer, the victim's eyes were also gouged out indicating the vile manner in which the crime was carried out.
"Apart from the eyes being gouged out, there were no physical injuries on the body, suggesting that the victim might have died out of choking,” Kimulwa stated.
He also noted that the police had launched a manhunt for two suspects who colluded with the prime suspect, Jackton Odhiambo.
“It is a matter of time before we arrest the two suspects who were captured by neighbours loading a metallic box into a vehicle that was later discovered to contain the body of the late Chiloba," he affirmed.
The activist's body was found stashed in a metal box filled with women's clothing along the Kipenyo-Kaptinga road in Kapsaret, Uasin Gishu County.
The prime suspect, Jackton Odhiambo - who shared the apartment with the victim- confessed to having colluded with two other suspects to commit the crime.
