Former Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang'i on Tuesday, January 31, pledged allegiance to former Head of State Uhuru Kenyatta as his President in a veiled attack on President William Ruto.
While mourning Professor George Magoha at his Lavington home in Nairobi, Matiang'i noted that his colleagues in Uhuru's administration were shocked by the recent developments in the country.
The former Cabinet Secretary noted that Magoha never entertained tribal bigotry that is currently evident in Ruto's administration.
"Magoha exhibited the best of Kenya, not the worst of our country," Matiang'i asserted as he called out the current administration for exercising tribalism.
The former CS warned Kenyans that the country was headed in the wrong direction that accommodates individualism instead of positive nationalism.
"When I see some things in this country, I know for sure that Kenya is better than such discussions," Matiang'i noted.
He noted that Prof Magoha was a diligent public servant who loved his work and the people whom he served for more than four decades.
"Magoha was only focused on services delivery to the people of Kenya, and not small talks that we are currently witnessing in the country," the former CS indicated.
According to Matiang'i, Professor Magoha's dedication, and energy were unmatched even by younger people.
"We spent long hours working on strategy and plans that we used to secure the educational systems and other departments," Matiang'i asserted.
Just days before handing power to President William Ruto on September 13, 2022, Uhuru declared his allegiance to Raila Odinga as his legitimate President.
However, Uhuru confirmed that he would hand over power to Ruto while smiling outrightly at the nation that he served for ten years.
“I will hand over power smiling because it is constitutional. Aluta continua but I will leave knowing Raila is my leader,” Uhuru noted.
Uhuru remains the Chairman of Azimio La Umoja Coalition Party while Raila Odinga is the Party Leader.
In the meeting, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka also pledged allegiance to Uhuru Kenyatta as his legitimate President.
