To secure a scholarship, Bruno Kibet penned a handwritten letter to the US ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman.

Kibet, who scored 360 marks in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), failed to raise funds to proceed to high school.

In the letter shared online on Friday, February 3, Kibet urged the ambassador to step in and help him advance to high school to help shape his future.

According to the two-page handwritten letter by the young lad, he lost his father and mother (to cancer) in 2012 and 2019, respectively.

Consequently, he was left in the care of his aunt, who sponsored him through his primary education.

"I stay with my aunt and I really thank her for taking care of me," read the letter in part.

Due to numerous reasons, he noted that he had missed a chance to secure a scholarship in the country from the various programs. One of the reasons was that he was schooling in an academy, and the programs required the beneficiary to be from a public school.

"Kindly ambassador, I am requesting you to assist in paying my high school fees. I promise to work hard and pass my form four exam for you to sponsor me with a scholarship to a university in the US,"

The young boy noted that he wanted to study nursing at a good university in the US before returning to care for sick people like his mother.

"Please assist me. I have watched you on TV doing charity work. Thanks and God bless you," he concluded.

Kibet also included his KCPE exam results, a calling letter to Cheborge Boys' High School in Kericho County, and his parents' death certificates. According to the calling letter, he is expected to report to school on Monday, February 6, 2023.

From his results, the learner scored B+ in English, B+ in Kiswahili, A- in Mathematics, B+ in Science, and B+ in Social Studies and Religious Education.

In the results released on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, 9,443 students scored above 400 marks, while those who scored between 300 and 399 marks were 307,756, and those between 200 and 299 marks were 699,593.
