Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hit out at former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Cabinet for lecturing the current government on performance and service delivery.
In reference to being criticised for talking too much rather than working, the DP stated that they were better off than the previous administration, citing Uhuru's failures.
Speaking during the launch of subsidised fertiliser in Mombasa County on Friday, February 3, Gachagua affirmed that they were keen on reducing the cost of living and recovering the economy.
"Those who sabotaged farmers for politics have no business telling us how to work, and if they know how work is going, they should come here and see what is going on.
"People are working day and night to bring the cost of food down and they are trying to introduce politics on how to tell people how they should work. They had their own opportunity to work and they brought this country to its knees economically," he stated.
He praised the work ethic of his boss, President William Ruto, and his team adding that Kenyans would see the changes in the coming month.
The DP further maintained that food production would be the best way to address the rising cost of living - an area he argued the previous administration failed to address.
"They should give us time and see the practical intervention to increasing productivity in Agriculture that is the only way to sort out the issue of the cost of food in this country," Gachagua stated.
While not directly naming Ruto and Gachagua, Uhuru urged his team to focus on their work instead of the jibes thrown at them by the current administration.
In particular, he praised his team for launching the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which the Ruto administration reviewed once the 5th President was sworn in.
"People may say whatever they want to say. They will talk, make noise and return to where they were before.
"Let us give them time to talk. CBC was not unveiled to hate or spite anyone. It was unveiled to help the children of this republic," Uhuru asserted.
President William Ruto is yet to respond directly to his predecessor.
