Nyandarua senator, John Methu, revealed that the tax man issued him 14 days before offering him the opportunity to seal the Kenyatta family's fate on tax evasion allegations.
During an interview with Kameme TV on Wednesday, February 8, Methu stated that the letter he submitted was received and would be responded to in a fortnight.
Claims propagated by President William Ruto and his allies, accusing former President Uhuru Kenyatta of evading tax, forced him to take action legally.
“You cannot solve tax evasion through newspapers or media. I wrote those letters because, as a leader, I have to take responsibility for my actions.
"Specific names were mentioned, so I wrote to the taxman as it was the only way to ascertain the allegations. My letters were received, and I am certain within 14 days, I will have received an answer.
"It is not a matter of waking up every day and shouting that Uhuru has evaded tax. That is just an allegation,” he announced.
Methu asked the government to seize from politicizing issues around taxation as the allegations may cause economic instability.
“Not that I am not trusting them but we should stop politicizing about tax. I also commend Inchungwa for writing to the Treasury as this is the genuine way to deal with issues," he noted.
Methu claimed to have written the letter on behalf of the Peoples’ Representatives from the Counties of Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyanga and Kiambu.
He alleged that the business owned by the Kenyatta family had subverted the social goals enshrined in the Constitution.
“In promoting social justice, the Constitution under Article 201 outlines different principles to be applied in public finance. One such principle touches on tax and is to be found in Article 201 (b) (i), which states that the tax burden in Kenya shall be shared fairly,” read the letter in part.
Through a different letter, Methu requested the Communications Authority to make public documents relating to the tendering process and subsequent payment of the 5G license to Kenyatta's communication company.
