Former Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Heritage, and Culture, who also held the Foreign Affairs docket Ambassador Amina Mohamed resurfaced with a new role that will see her spend time in Nigeria.

This is after she was included in the team of Commonwealth election observers in Nigeria, which will be holding the largest elections in Africa on February 25, 2023.

The Observer Group comprises 16 eminent persons from around the Commonwealth, including politicians, diplomats, and experts in law, human rights, gender equality, and election administration.

The election observer group will be led by former South Africa's President Thambo Mbeki.

Commonwealth Secretary-General, Patricia Scotland, constituted the Commonwealth Observer Group following an invitation from Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission.

Amina, together with her colleagues will be in Nigeria from February 18 to March 2.

This is the second time the former Foreign Affairs CS in former President Uhuru Kenyatta's government reappeared with an international election observer job after handing over power following the appointment of new CSs by President William Ruto.

In November 2022, Amina was appointed to lead a 5-member Commonwealth Observer Mission to Dominica for its general election that was set for December of the same year.

Other former CSs who served under the immediate former President Uhuru Kenyatta's cabinet have equally gained international recognition by landing international jobs.

Former Tourism CS Najib Balala was the first to land a top international job after being left out of the Ruto cabinet when he was appointed as the new vice-president of Fauna & Flora International (FFI), a UK-based global wildlife conservation charity in early November 2022.

In January 2023, the immediate former Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru was appointed the new president of JUMO - a multinational intelligent banking firm.

Former Education CS, the late George Magoha, and former Public Service, Youth, and Gender Affairs CS Margaret Kobia equally landed jobs after missing out on the Ruto government.

The late Magoha and Kobia went back to teaching after their stints in government under Uhuru.

Prof. Magoha had been appointed as a lecturer at Maseno university before meeting his untimely death while Kobia was appointed as an adjunct research professor at the University of Nairobi.
