Kenya is expected to be the home of the largest military exercise in East Africa which will host at least 20 countries from three continents, after it was launched by the US Army on Monday, February 13.

The exercise, Justified Accord 23, commissioned by the US Army and Kenya was scheduled to take place from February 13 to February 24.

It will consist of field training, live-fire, and maritime exercises, special operations, and cyber courses.

Additionally, the exercise is US Africa Command's largest exercise in East Africa that will involve events in Uganda, Rwanda, Botswana, and Djibouti.

"This exercise brings together more than 20 countries from three continents," it was announced.

The exercise is aimed at increasing partner readiness for peacekeeping missions, crisis response, and humanitarian exercises.

Kenyans will also benefit from the exercise as many will receive medical services from US Army Civil Affairs personnel alongside their personnel in Kenya.

Furthermore, the 10-day exercise helps build partnerships with U.S. Army Africa and the East African military forces and is designed to help USARAF and East African participants improve their capability to respond to regional security threats.

Some of these threats according to the US are posed by violent extremists organisation like the Al Shabaab.

"Justified Accord alternates annually as a field-training exercise and a table-top exercise," stated the organisers.

The Southern European Task Force-Africa (SETAF-AF) will lead this joint, exercise in East Africa to enable future operations, maintain strategic access, and build partner capacity to disrupt malign influence, aggression, and activity.

Meanwhile, the exercise comes before joint South Africa/Russia/China military maneuvers that coincide with the first anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
