Firefighters from the Nairobi County Fire Department on Wednesday, February 15, responded to a fierce fire that completely gutted down GINQ club in Kileleshwa Estate.
The fire that began at around 3 pm burnt for several minutes before the City fire engines arrived at the scene of the incident.
Witnesses claimed that the fire began somewhere within GINQ club and quickly spread throughout the entire building.
"The firefighters took too long to respond to the fire that began spreading so rapidly throughout the club. We wonder why the firefighters took too long to respond to the accident," a witness recounted.
It was not immediately clear if people who injured in the fire incident, but initial reports showed that no one was killed.
While responding to the fire, ravellers as well as well-wishers joined hands to it put out using buckets of water before fire trucks arrived.
Chaotic scenes were witnessed as people evaded the hot inferno that also threatened the integrity of the nearby building.
Kileleshwa residents lamented that the fire trucks were far away from the estate that is hosting several high-end nightclubs.
"Kileleshwa should be having a fire engine so that firefighters would immediately respond to such incidents promptly and effectively," a witness pleaded.
The atmosphere was covered by toxic smoke, heat, and the resulting human rush toward the main exit of GINQ night club.
Many people were visibly threatened by the incident which also caused anxiety among the witnesses who were at the club.
Nairobi County government is yet to issue an official statement of the cause, result and mitigation measures that were employed after fire gutted down the GINQ nightclub.
