Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, who has been a guest of the authorities numerously, offered Azimio leaders pointers on what to do should they be arrested.

The senator offered the pieces of advice while appearing on Citizen TV's morning show, Day Break, on Thursday, February 15.

Cherargei was speaking on the backdrop of police officers raiding former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i home on Wednesday, February 15 and the brouhaha that emerged from an earlier attempt to have the former Minister arrested.

“I want to assure Azimio leaders that there is no persecution from the government but if you anticipate an arrest I can give you a pointer,” he remarked.

The senator revealed that when the police officers raided his home on April 21, 2022, they found him unclothed and he was not accorded the luxury of picking warm clothing or packing a bag.

He further advised the leaders that once they are arrested, they will not be allowed to have belts or shoes in the holding cell.

"If you have an impending arrest, make sure you are wearing warm clothes, it is something I learned the hard way.

“It is also important to make sure that you have ready cash bail or bond if you think police officers will be coming after you,” he advised.

Cheekily, Cherargei also argued that a good choice of lawyers was paramount hinting that the Azimio leaders without reputable advocates would suffer a great deal.

“I have seen some leaders walking around with non-competent lawyers. To survive, they need to get very good lawyers,” he opined.

Cherargei further explained that the police who raided the former CS’s home on Wednesday, February 15, had done so in search of the CCTV footage.

“The police officers wanted to retrieve CCTV footage to show that there had been no raid. What they should do now is release an official statement to show that they had a court order to search the premises,” he remarked.

On his arrest, he noted that he was still battling an illness when it happened.

“I do not want what I passed through to ever be experienced by another politician. I was dragged from my home while sick and driven to Capitol Hill Police Station and the police officers ignored a court order to have me seek treatment,” he recounted.
