President William Ruto unveiled Kanyonyoo Hospital, built with the contribution of members of the National Police Service (NPS).
On Thursday, February 23, Ruto launched the hospital, mainly serving retired and currently working police officers.
The Head of State revealed that with a contribution of Ksh50 from each junior officer, the Administration Police Service constructed a 160-bed hospital to cater for their personnel.
"It's amazing that with the contribution of Ksh50 from all police officers, a Ksh100 million hospital has been built," Ruto noted.
Ruto expressed his admiration for the service, and how they managed to build the facility.
He promised to invest Ksh20 billion in police infrastructure to ensure officers are well-equipped to understand any mission.
"The Cabinet Secretary for Interior will guarantee that your land, sea and air equipment are well maintained to facilitate your activities," Ruto noted.
In the directive, Ruto asked CS Kithure Kindiki to develop mechanisms that will allow the police to solve complex criminal activities in the country.
The construction of Kanyonyoo Hospital was supervised by APS Deputy Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow and his team.
Gabow explained that they used APS officers as masons, plumbers and even architects, thus saving costs during the construction.
“We use our own personnel for the work. We have also been getting help from National Youth Service with their excavators,” Gabow noted.
According to the APS Deputy Inspector General of Police, they will deploy 150 medical personnel to the facility to care for patients.
