Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on Thursday, February 23, downplayed reports claiming he was positioning himself as the next Mt Kenya kingpin.

While attending a funeral service in Gatanga, Murang’a County, the DP affirmed his commitment to economically empowering Central Kenya residents and the nation at large through agricultural activities.

He ruled out speculations of a fallout between him and Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro, as reported, and instead stated his intention to cooperate with all leaders to address concerns among the electorate.

Nyoro was conspicuously missing in the funeral service attended by elected leaders led by Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata and a host of parliamentarians from other Mt Kenya counties.

However, DP Gachagua relayed his message of condolences to the bereaved family, noting that the Kiharu MP was engaged in the activities surrounding the approval of the supplementary budget in Parliament.

He noted that he will convene a meeting with Mount Kenya leaders in Naivasha to discuss the region's future in matters of economy.

“We are not concerned about seats, about who will occupy what seat those discussions are not important. I only have one job right now- to boost agriculture and empower our people economically- God will decide the rest," Gachagua noted.

"Once our people have something to pocket, I will ask my wife to follow me in retirement,” he added.

While highlighting his economic empowerment plan for the Mount Kenya region - Gachagua stated that the government will prioritize milk farming as well as coffee and tea to maximize the profits made by farmers.

His remarks came after publicised media reports insinuated that there was disquiet within the Mount Kenya region caucus of leaders.

In reference to the media reports, Gachagua urged his supporters to ignore misinformation peddled in the various outlets in what he described as a deliberate move to malign him.

He asserted that Kenya Kwanza Administration will prioritise leaders loyal to its manifesto and agenda in government appointments amid a sustained onslaught from members of the opposition faction.
