Plane Crashes Near Lake Baringo

Two passengers Sunday, February 26, cheated death after a light aircraft they were travelling in crashed in Baringo County.

The accident, according to confirmed reports, occurred as the aircraft was preparing to land at the Kampi ya Samaki Airstrip in Baringo. 

The two occupants of the plane escaped with injuries following the crash-landing incident. 

In photos shared from the scene, the aircraft’s body was mangled in what appeared to have been a nosedive into the ground’s surface.

Police officers and officials from the Lake Baringo amenity rushed to the scene to assess the situation and offer emergency aid to the occupants.  

According to sources from the accident scene, one of the injured men was the pilot while the other was a passenger. 

They were rushed to a nearby hospital in Marigat Town for treatment as the police officers worked on identifying the injured persons. 

"The police and area chief responded quickly which helped to evacuate them in time and take them to the hospital," a witness stated. 

The cause for the mishap was yet to be established. However, detectives and aviation officers were expected to visit the scene for investigations.

Kampi ya Samaki Airstrip is popular in the region and is mostly used by tourists visiting Lake Baringo and other destinations in the vicinity. 

Cases of crash landing have been common in the past especially with planes categorized in the light aircraft category. 

In December 2022, two people- a man and his son- died after a light aircraft they flying in crashed at the Tsavo National Park in Kwale County.
