KPLC Announces 8-Hr Power Interruptions in 62 Nairobi Areas

Kenya Power announced that over 62 areas in Nairobi would face an 8-hour power outage owing to scheduled maintenance by the utility firm.

In a statement dated Monday, February 27, the power supplier noted that the most affected areas were in Umoja, Lang'ata, Eatsleigh, Loresho and Nairobi West.

The maintenance was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, February 28, at 9 am, with Kenya Power adding that it would work around the clock to complete the exercise by 5 pm.

Parts of Umoja Innercore to be affected are Unity Primary, Inner Core Sango, Kwa Chief Umoja Office, Cathsam School, Umoja 2 Market, Oloibon Hotel and adjacent areas.

In Langa'ata and Nairobi West, the power utility firm indicated Airport View, part of Dam Estate, Uhuru Monument, parts of Mbagathi Way, Blue Sky Estate, Jonathan Glog, Deliverance Church, and Dam 2 Estate would also face the 8-hour blackout.

Langata shopping centre, Nairobi Sailing Club, Jehovah Witness Langata, Funguo Estate, and Akila 1, were also included in the list.

"Other parts of Langata to face blackout are the Administration Police Camp, Langata Paradise, Royal apartments, Choice apartments, Chelsea Ma-rina, Nula apartments and the Texas Cancer Centre," read the notice in part.

From the notice, Kenya Power also stated that parts of Mamlaka Road near State House Road would be affected by key institutions such as State House Girls, Arboretum and the University of Nairobi hostels included.

Other areas along the road to face the blackout are Mamlaka hall, Mamlaka court, Mamlaka hostels, Ufungamano House, Permanent Presidential Music Commission and adjacent customers.

"Kaptagat Road, (Kenya Agricultural Research Institute) KARI, Coopers, Syinyalu, Kaoumoni, part of Loresho Ridge, Thego Road, Qaribu Inn, Loresho Green Apartments. Kabete Veterinary lab, parts of Waiyaki Way, UON Kabete Campus, and New Loresho Estate will also be affected," read the notice in part.

"In Kiwanja, parts of Kiwanja, Njurinjeke Hostel, Peponi Hostel. The Grace Hostels, Booster & adjacent customers will face the blackout," read the notice in part.

Areas in Eastleigh to be affected were part of General Waruinge, part of 1st Avenue and adjacent buildings.
