Kenyan Passport Overtakes 5 Countries in Latest Global Ranking

The Kenyan Passport has continued to make major strides after emerging best in East Africa and improving by five slots on the global ranking

According to Henley World's Strongest Passports List 2023, Kenya was ranked position 71 globally and emerged seventh on the African Continent.

In the latest ranking, Kenya also had a free score of 72 which remained unchanged for the second year running.

The country had been ranked 76 globally in a similar report in 2022.

 A free score is used to indicate the number of countries a Kenyan citizen can be allowed to travel to without acquiring a Visa prior.

In those countries, a Kenyan can travel using only a passport or apply for a Visa after arriving into the host country.

Regionally, Kenya led in EAC with Tanzania following closely at 72nd position with a free score of 71.

Uganda was ranked 77 with a free score of 66 while Rwanda was ranked 82 with a free score of 60. Other EAC countries included; Burundi (93), the Democratic Republic of Congo (93) and South Sudan (44).

African countries that usurped Kenya include; Mauritius (32), South Africa (54), Botswana (62), Namibia (66), Lesotho (67), eSwatini (69) and Malawi (70).

Globally, Singapore ranked second in 2022 but tied for the first position with Japan in the latest report.

The United States was ranked 7th tying with Belgium, the Czech Republic, New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland.

US citizens can travel to 187 countries by the power of their passport alone without requiring a Visa application.
