Roots Party leader Prof George Wajackoya revealed that there was a red alert issued on him during his last trip to Tanzania on February 28.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, March 2, the 2022 presidential candidate confirmed that he was indeed temporarily blocked from gaining access to East African country.

He stated that his rights were breached because the government needed to inform him why a red alert had been issued against him.

"If any citizen has been stopped from entering the country, he needs to be informed in advance.

"They breached my rights when they put the caveat and failed to inform me (in time)," he stated.

During a rally on Wednesday, March 1, Wajackoyah stated that he was released shortly after being detained.

"When I came to the airport yesterday, I was told to follow some officials and I saw that the atmosphere had changed. I knew something was wrong somewhere as I was not allowed to come to Tanzania because of a red alert.

"I looked like a criminal. Later on, I was released," he stated.

The Roots Party leader was speaking at a rally for the Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) that had organised a home welcoming for Godbless Lema who had been exiled in Canada.

Attempts to reach out to Kenya High Commission in Tanzania proved futile as they did not respond to our queries on the red alert.

During the March 1 rally, he also urged President Samia Suluhu to work with other East African Community (EAC) presidents to ease the movement of individuals.

The 2022 Presidential candidate opined that only ID needed to be put as a travel requirement.

He noted that the move would boost trade and strengthen the relationship between EAC member states.
