Kenya Power (KPLC) explained the bypass error on some tokens meter and how to solve it.

While responding to a concerned customer on Saturday, March 4, the service provider explained that the error occurs when a meter goes into defensive mode.

"The defensive mode is activated if the token meter senses any form of interference.

You need a tamper code to clear. Share meter number, contact, and exact location with landmarks for booking," Kenya power explained.

Some physical signs of tampering include the seal being removed from the meter, when the bottom cover is loose, if there is an additional illegal wiring connection to and from your meter, and if the meter is unable to dispense power to your house.

Notably, a tamper code is a 20-digit number provided by Kenya Power that configures your meter by clearing it from tamper mode and restoring it to its default state.

Kenya Power does not charge to provide the code for its clients.

A client is advised to request it from the electricity provider. Often Kenya Power schedules their employees to visit the customers and handle the issue at the meter location.

While in some occasions, the customer is urged to visit Kenya Power offices for further assistance.

In some cases, after providing the cause of the issue and sharing your meter number, Kenya Power generates the code for you online.

It then seeks to know whether the device is portable or if there is power on the premises.

"When keying in the said code, make sure the CIU (the gadget for loading token) is connected to the power cable, and the cable, connect it to the wall socket, not the extension cable," Kenya Power explained.
