The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) on Thursday, March 9, announced the commencement of the registration of Grade Six students for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) scheduled for later in the year.
In a statement, the Council underlined that the registration exercise began on March 3, adding that it would end in April 2023.
Consequently, parents and teachers were advised to ensure that the details of the students are captured, as the government would not offer an extension. Registration would also be done online through the portal.
"Registration of learners for the 2023 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) commenced on March 3, 2023.
"The exercise will end on April 3, 2023. Center Managers should note that no learner will be registered after April 3," read the statement in part.
Details required during the registration include the learner’s assessment number, name as captured on the birth certificate, gender of the learner, and year of birth, among others.
On the other hand, schools were warned against registering ghost students, with KNEC issuing a tough stance to the centre managers.
"All learners registered for KPSEA must be bonafide, school-going learners in their respective schools, who are transiting to Grade Six.
"Registration of ghost learners constitutes assessment malpractice, which attracts sanctions, including de-registration of the school as a KNEC Assessment centre," read the statement in part.
School heads were therefore advised to submit details of the registered students by April 5 to the Sub-County Directors of Education for verification before being submitted to KNEC.
Grade Six students are set to be assessed later in the year alongside Standard Eight and Form Four students.
