The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC)unveiled the dates for the registration of the 2023 National exams under the Competency Based Curriculum(CBC).

KNEC stated that assessment for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment(KILEA) would begin on March 3, 2023.

Additionally, the examination council announced that the deadline for the registration would be closed on April 3, 2023.

KNEC further directed all heads of schools presenting learners for the 2023 KPSEA and KILEA to ensure that they were all registered.

Further issuing directions on how the exams will be done stating that the examinations would be hosted in the current KCPE centres with candidature of 30 and above.

“This means that institutions with a combined candidature of thirty and above for both KPSEA and KCPE examination will therefore be allowed to conduct the KPSEA in their premises,” KNEC explained.

The council further directed that assessment centres with less than 30 candidates will be hosted in centres to be identified by Sub County Directors, in line with the guidelines provided by KNEC.

“Special schools are exempted from this rule,” KNEC clarified.

Moreover, KNEC issued a warning against the registration of ghost learners, stating that the registration of learners who were not transitioning to grade six was an assessment malpractice.

“Registration of ghost attracts sanctions, including de-registration of the school as a KNEC assessment centre,” KNEC warned.

For registration, heads of institutions were instructed to log into the KNEC portal under the KPSEA to enter the details of their assessment centers.

In addition, the heads are also required to include details of their learners using their assessment centre login information.

“The heads of the institutions should ensure accuracy of the learner’s assessment number, name as it appears on the birth certificate, and gender,” stated the education council.

Earlier on February 13, KNEC issued clarifications on the registration of the 2023 KCPE and KCSE exams urging all candidates to fill in the order of their names as documented in their birth certificates and indicate the correct gender.
